In this episode John discovers how the diverse cultural make up of Kuala Lumpur influences the wide variety of taste and flavours in Malaysian cooking. Guide Charlie Viknas shows him around two districts of the city with distinct Indian and Chinese heritages where he gets to sample a number of local delicacies. He then visits local TV chef and restaurateur Sherson Lian who shows him how to make a typical Malaysian rice dish, Nasi Lemak.

Cookery series in which chef John Torode uncovers Malaysia's complex cooking culture. This episode takes him to the Island of Penang. Here he visits a local street market in George Town with Malaysian street food expert and writer Robyn Eckhardt and gets to sample a number of local delicacies. Whilst on the island, John also pays a visit to local cookery school owner Nazlina who teaches him how to make a typical Malaysian Pineapple Curry.
